TITLE: New additives for a new fertilizers scenario.

ABSTRACT:
Organic additives in fertilizers are being used for more than 30 years for different proposals. Mainly as anti-caking agents, granulation aids, anti-dusting agents, corrosion inhibitors, anti-foaming agent, etc.
Some of the components of these additives are classified as "hazardous ingredients" and may have limited biodegradability or can be eco-toxic. European countries are very sensitive to these concepts and in fact some of them started law actions to restrict in the future the usage of some components in standard additives.
In this frame, KAO GROUP also started a global process in order to develop, produce and distribute in the most ecological possible way. A new slogan has been created : "ECO TOGETHER". Kao Corporation, S.A. as member of Kao Chemicals Europe is one of the world-wide leaders in fertilizers additives for more than 20 years. In fact our company have a wide range of "classical" additives for technical ammonium nitrate, granulated fertilizer, liquid and crystallized fertilizers, etc.
Kao Corporation S.A. is committed to follow this concept and to research and offer the necessary additives that meet the future scenario in the European Market. Consequently, Kao Corporation, S.A. started the development of new additives for different fertilizers segments. Nowadays several alternatives are ready to be used and other ones are under progress.
The main relevant achievements are focussed in the following fields:
- Granulated fertilizers: Vegetable based hydrophobic anti-caking additives as alternative to conventional mineral oil additives or concentrated formula compatible with different vegetable bases.
- Crystallized and prilled fertilizers: Water soluble anti-caking additives with eco-friendly character as alternative to the standard type.
- Liquid fertilizers: New corrosion inhibitors for UAN with eco-friendly character.
Detailed information about performance and eco-friendly character will be disclosed.
Finally next steps will be explained.
